Nick's online journal of burning love

The mis-adventures of everyone's favorite musical atheist

7/7/09 05:32 pm - LoudTwitter went caput!

The site that auto-posted all my Twitter updates to LJ has gone under. That makes me sad. I'm currently searching for an alternative. I don't want to abandon it for LJText because there are lots of friends on Twitter that aren't on LJ, etc, etc. If any of you know of an alternative site that will do the same type of service, please lemme know!

All my various groups of family, friends, music biz acquaintances are spread across five or six different social networking sites. Someone should design one big site that combines all of them into one customizable screen.

Let me know when it's done, okay?

Freedom isn't free.

No, there's a hefty fuckin' fee.

5/26/09 08:38 am - Quakes Negative Chage Tour - Grand Finale!

Touring is not healthy. There is no way to stick to any kind of regimen as far as sleeping, eating, showering, etc, is concerned. You are consistantly deprived of a good night's sleep. There's no way to get any exercise because you're cramped in a van for hours upon hours for weeks at a time. That's not even taking into account the toll that is taken on your body by alcohol consumption, eating shitty gas station foods that contain practically ZERO nutritional value and drinking enough coffee to kill an elephant. Oh and by the way, there's no money in it either. You could make a lot more money just by getting a regular 9-5 job. But where's the fun in that? In short - touring is fucked up. At least on the underground circuit. If you aren't incredibly focused, it would be very easy to fall off the rails.

We were on the road for three weeks with The Quakes. I didn't play any of the shows obviously. I was just there as a support guy. I ran the merch table, did some driving, acted as a moderator between Juan Carlos, Kenny and Paul arguing about random shit and generally took up a good amount of space. The list of states that we drove through is daunting. It doesn't seem like we should have been able to cover all this ground in such a short amount of time, but somehow it happened! We drove through:

New Mexico
Texas
Kansas
Missouri
Illinois
Indiana
Ohio
Pennsylvania
New York
Maryland
Delaware
New Jersey
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Oklahoma
Michigan
New Hampshire
Maine
Vermont
Quebec
Ontario

The best shows were by far Chicago, New York, Montreal and Ann Arbor. Not surprisingly, those were the towns that had the best music scenes (incidentally, three of those were the towns where I got to meet up with old friends again).

In Chicago, we met up with the guys from the Curtains, Dylan and Adam from the Reckless Ones (formerly of the Corpse Show Creeps), Evelyn (former drummer from the Video Nasties and all around cool chick). In New York, I met up with the Memphis Morticians, the Arkhams, and my old best friend John McCullough. In Montreal we hung out with Custom Pat and Flipper from the motherfucking Gutter Demons(!), the Hypnophonics, and hundreds of gorgeously pale and thin French Canadian women (most of which did not speak a word of English). In Ann Arbor, we met up with our main mofo Diana Price (Di-Pri), and the eternally wicked Koffin Kats. Honorable mention goes to Baltimore and my mate Liz Bouras.

The last show with the Koffin Kats really did me in. I was doing A-OK until then. I was holding off the sickness that had afflicted Juan and Kenny. I was trying to eat healthy (didn't really work) and trying to get as much sleep as possible. Of course all the strain was bound to catch up to me sooner or later and it did in Ann Arbor. I got too drunk. People kept buying me drinks simply because I was "the guy from The Limit Club" (speaking of which, I was recognised at a lot of the shows! Always a welcome surprise. My enterprise is ever expanding... hahaha). I woke up the next morning and almost collapsed from hangover. I turned on the shower and just laid there in the tub for about ten minutes with the water pelting against my quivering, nauseous, naked body. Hahaha! I just couldn't help myself. It was such a good time hanging out with Diana and the Koffin Kats, not to mention the Quakes. It was just the Grand Finale I was hoping for. So many of my favorite people all in one place. The next morning though... oh did I regret it.

Now I'm sitting around, suffering from a case of the "Road-Flu" and catching up on all the e-mail and MySpace duties I've been neglecting. The tour was a great amount of fun and adventure, but holy shit was it a lot of work.

I'll post all the pictures and stuff soon. Prepare yourselves.

5/11/09 03:19 pm - Quakes East Coast Tour Update 2.

This tour has been outrageous. So much fun crammed into less than a week. We've been to Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago (where we hung out with Evelyn and our friends Adam and Dylan from the Corpse Show Creeps), Cleveland. Now we're in Buffalo, New York kickin back at a hotel while Paul takes care of some personal business.

My "States I've Been To" map is starting to look pretty goddamn cool. It will look even better by the time this is all over.
